Are you a small business owner who feels as if you are stuck in a money trap? Although a large number of small business owners are able to make money with their businesses, there are others who only end up losing money. If you think that you are one of those small business owners, you may be wondering if the time to get out of the business is now.

When comes to determining whether you should close down your small business or give it a few more chances, there are a number of important factors that should first be examined. One of those factors is your current financial situation. Do you think that you could afford to keep your business open for a little bit longer, even just a few more months? If you can do so, you may want to think about doing so. What you need to remember is that all small businesses, including those that are mainly operated online and those that are mainly operated offline, have slumps. It is not uncommon to have a few bad months. If given time, you may see your business and its financial outlook start to improve.

Another important factor that needs to be examined is your business’s location. If you are running an online business, this isn’t much of a problem for you, as you can simply sell your online website or just close it down and discard it forever. However, if you run a local business, you may have a rental contract with your commercial landlord. While some commercial landlords are understanding, when it comes to businesses that need to close down due to lack of success, there are others who just want their money. Whether or not you can get out of your lease without being sued for the remaining amount is another factor that should be used to determine whether or not you should close your business doors. If you find that you need to pay off the remainder of your lease, you mine as well keep your business open.

It is also advised that you examine all of your equipment, supplies, and merchandise, if you were running a retail store. If you were running a retail store, you may want to think about having a liquidation sale, before officially closing your business doors. This will give you the opportunity to make a little bit of money from your leftover merchandise. Also, if you can’t see yourself using your office furniture or other fixtures, you may want to think about selling them as well. When it comes to closing down a business, you want to try and be able to recoup as much as your startup costs as you can, as it may help to lessen the financial burden.

As it was outlined above, it is often easier for many online business owners to close their business doors, because they often have less invested into their business. If you would like to close your storefront doors, but you still think that your business has a chance of success, you may want to think about opening up an online business. With online businesses, you often just need an online website that allows your customers to order products or services and you have available and pay for them, it is as simple as that!

There is an old saying: “you have to have money to make money.” With today’s advancements in technology, this could not be further from the case. If you know where to look, then making money just from your time is easy. These type of jobs do not require any skills what so ever, just time.

Now before you get excited, you must know that the majority of people who attempt this do not actually make a fulltime living off of it, no matter what the ads tell you. These types of jobs are good for people such as college students, stay at home moms, or people looking for a small amount of additional income.

Now, take for example, you are walking through the grocery store and you to a booth that is offering a taste of the latest food. Once you finish the sample, the lady behind the booth asks “So how did you like it?” you reply with your answer and she writes it down and give you a coupon for the actual product. Did you know that you just unknowingly took a survey about that product. In much of the same fashion, online business ask you to try their product or service, and then tell them what you liked and did not like about it. This helps companies imporve and tailor their products and services so that they reach the most customers.

One of the largest make money for free is taking surveys. Thousand of programs are available that directs you to the surveys, some of which require a membership fee, while others do not. The membership fees are typically small, usually less then $40. Once you sign up, you will either have a page that you visit daily to check for new surveys, or have new surveys emailed to you as they come in.

Most survey companies will ask about your life situation and your interests. While this may seem nosey, the real reason is so that the company to match you with surveys that match you interests. The more information you provide, the better opportunities you will have.

Some survey’s require you to purchase their product or service before you can take the survey. However, once you complete the survey, not only do they pay you for finishing it, but they also reimburse you the amount of money you spent initially.

You will want to take special care when searching for jobs that do not require money. The internet is full of “get rich quick” schemes. While the promotions may seem great, chances are they are either extremely hard to accomplish, or bogus. Another old saying works well in this situation: “It is sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.”

So lets say for example you sign up with a survey company. The next day you receive an email telling you that you are eligible for a survey though a popular online video rental website, and you will receive $20.00 for taking the survey. To receive the service, you must pay $9.99 initially, which covers a month of service. One you analyze the service, you will then take the survey. Once the survey is complete, your account will be credited with the $20.00 for taking the survey, and the $9.99 that you spent on the service.

Important Characteristics Every Entrepreneur Must Have

Are you planning to start and run your own business? Do you know the right qualifications and characteristics an entrepreneur must have to succeed? Does your profile match that of a successful entrepreneur? In this article we will explore and discuss the essential characteristics that every entrepreneur must have. There are several important traits and values that are common among successful entrepreneurs. Before you go and start your enterprise, it will be very helpful to think and reflect whether you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. If not, you can also start developing these character traits.

1. Successful Entrepreneurs are Self-Confident – to succeed in the highly competitive business world, confidence and trust in oneself is an indispensable trait. Self-confidence means trusting your own powers and capabilities. The world of entrepreneurship is not alien to failure and disappointments. To survive in such a cutthroat world, an entrepreneur must have the ability to look within himself and find the drive and persistence to pursue his enterprise. An entrepreneur must have the gumption to face any adversity and tackle any problems that may be encountered in the world of business.

2. Successful Entrepreneurs are Risk-takers – being an entrepreneur means having the ability to trust your hunches and acting on them. Great business ideas sometimes start as a hunch which enterprising individuals acted upon. There is always the risk of loss in any endeavor, and entrepreneurs have just the right confidence to take calculated risks to achieve their objective. However, an entrepreneur’s risk-taking does not depend on luck, but on sheer effort and hard work.

3. Successful Entrepreneurs know the value of money and are careful about their finances – to succeed in any business; an entrepreneur must understand the value of money and the cost of things. Typically, successful entrepreneurs learned how to earn and value money at a young age. Most of them started out by earning loose change as teenagers mowing lawns, doing groceries, babysitting for neighbors, etc.

4. Successful entrepreneurs have the so-called head for business – many entrepreneurs are gifted with intuition: they know what product or service is going to ‘click’ next. However, this ability does not involve clairvoyance or extra sensory powers of some sort, but rather, keen observation and understanding of what is going on around him. A good entrepreneur is always on the look out for new ideas and new ways to make money.

5. Successful Entrepreneurs are competitive – the world of business is a very competitive environment. An entrepreneur must be aggressive enough to pursue his goal despite having many rivals and competitors. An entrepreneur must know how to stay ahead of his competitors, either by introducing new ideas and exploring new ventures, all in the spirit of expanding his business.

6. Successful Entrepreneurs are honorable and have a good work ethic – although it is a fact that the business world is ruthless, but the successful entrepreneur will strive to make every business deal honorable. The mark of a successful entrepreneur lies in a good personal work ethic that ultimately leads to good business practices, excellent reputation and good association with industry peers and business partners.

7. Successful Entrepreneurs know the importance of leisure time – hard work and determination are very important values every entrepreneur must have. However, a good entrepreneur knows when it’s time to take a step back from all the rigors of business and enjoy some downtime with their family. Besides, we all do need a little relaxation to refresh the body and mind before plunging back into the challenging (and stressful) world of business.

These are just seven of the most important characteristics of an entrepreneur. Of course, the characteristics every entrepreneur must have are not limited to the ones mentioned. Having these characteristics is not a guarantee that an entrepreneur will be successful. But with these characteristics, an entrepreneur has just the right ingredients for success. All one needs to do is to find the right mix of these values, excellent timing, perhaps a bit of luck and, of course, faith in oneself. So, do you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur? Go over these characteristics and values mentioned and reflect if you do have these.

Governors and business lobbyists pressured lawmakers Wednesday to pass a $700 billion financial industry bailout as top lawmakers prepared for another face-off on the issue — this time in the Senate.

“There is a time for partisanship and there is a time for getting things done,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry and West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin wrote in a letter to members of Congress.

“Americans across the country and in every demographic are feeling the pinch. If Congress does not act soon, the situation will grow appreciably worse. It’s time for leadership. Congress needs to act now,” they wrote.

Perry heads the Republican Governors Association while Manchin leads the Democratic governors group. Their letter was aimed at signaling there are home-state political reasons for approving the massive bailout, in which the government would spend billions of dollars to buy risky mortgage securities that are choking the financial system.

Adding its voice, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched 30-second radio ads in the Washington area aimed directly at lawmakers.

“Inaction, without a doubt, would cause our economy to collapse,” R. Bruce Josten, the chamber’s executive vice president, says in the ad. “Congress, do not delay.”

The new lobbying initiative came as the Senate prepared for an evening vote on a version of the bill overhauled to attract additional support. Changes include an increase in the size of bank deposits insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., from $100,000 to $250,000.

Congressional leaders said those additions, plus complaints from constituents furious over Monday’s stock market plunge, have improved the prospects for the measure’s approval. After the Senate’s expected passage, a House vote could come later this week.

In a letter to members of Congress Tuesday, more than 50 business trade groups said legislators had to quickly act “to prevent a meltdown” of the country’s capital markets and disappearance of credit, making loans for businesses and individuals harder to come by.

Groups signing the letter included the National Association of Manufacturers, the American Banking Association and the National Association of Realtors.

The White House also stepped in by urging outside groups to press lawmakers to vote “yes” when Congress takes up the rescue legislation anew, according to a senior administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy.

President Bush has made a nationally televised speech and met with congressional leaders and the two main presidential candidates at the White House in a futile effort to round up votes for the legislation.

Monday’s House rejection of the package has left business groups fuming.

Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs at the Financial Services Roundtable, complained that lawmakers are hearing two different arguments.

“In one they have constituents asking: ‘Why are we helping industry with this self-inflicted wound? This bill doesn’t affect me,’” said Talbott, whose group represents 100 of the country’s largest financial services companies. “In the other ear, they were hearing doom and gloom” from the administration and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, said Talbott.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said its annual tally of how individual lawmakers vote on business issues would include the votes on the rescue plan — in effect daring lawmakers to oppose the legislation.

Such warnings, though, fell short Monday against complaints from angry constituents. Public reaction to the House vote — and the Dow Jones industrial average’s 778-point plunge — could again carry the day when lawmakers revisit the legislation.

“I’m sure the lobbyists are trying, but I don’t think even an army of lobbyists can overcome the public response, which is huge,” said Rep. John Campbell, R-Calif., who cast a “yes” vote.

Campbell said while calls to his office against the bill outnumbered those in favor by 8-to-1, most constituents voiced support for the measure on Tuesday.

“The calls now are saying, ‘I lost 10 percent of my retirement yesterday,’” Campbell said. “The calls I’m getting are thanking me now.”

Aides to lawmakers who opposed the legislation said that while the number of constituents calling or e-mailing on Tuesday who supported the bill increased, majorities were still against the bailout.

The Center for Responsive Politics, a private group that tracks money in politics, noted that House members who supported the bailout have received 51 percent more in campaign contributions from the finance, insurance and real estate sectors than those who opposed the legislation.

How Hard Can the World be for Mom Entrepreneurs?

Motherhood can be a very fulfilling, yet frustrating time for a woman. You see, motherhood can actually prevent women from accomplishing many of the goals they have set for themselves.

Nowadays, it is only proper that both parents share the responsibility of rearing a child. However, we cannot deny the fact that mothers often have a harder time. In this line of thinking, what do you think mom entrepreneurs face in today’s world?

Well, many moms actually find that being an entrepreneur is much better than being an employee. You see, when you are a mom entrepreneur, you are your own boss. This means you will be able to balance time between taking care of a child and making money. Being a mom entrepreneur also gives you the advantage of choosing where to go and when.

Mom entrepreneurs actually do not have it so hard nowadays as they did a few years back. You see, technology today has evolved to a point that it makes being an entrepreneur quite easy, whether you are a mother or not.

Mom entrepreneurs nowadays can actually take care of business even when they are at home. The technological marvel of the internet actually means that being a home-based mom entrepreneur has a lot of advantages.

Mom entrepreneurs nowadays have a chance at becoming globally competitive, as the internet actually allows people from all over the world to do business with you. Mom entrepreneurs also have a number of opportunities out there for them to take advantage of. You see, a mom entrepreneur nowadays has a much bigger chance of making a lot of money than being a mom employee.

What does it take to be a mom entrepreneur? Well, if you want to join the ranks of the 10.6 million women who own businesses and generate 2.5 trillion dollars annually, you’ll have to have the character of a mom entrepreneur.

You’ll need patience and lots of it. Taking care of a child and of a business at the same time can be pretty frustrating. In order to be a mom entrepreneur you have to learn how to keep your cool even during the direst of situations. You need to be patient with your children as well as your business.

You also need to be prepared for any kind of problem that you might face. As a mom entrepreneur, you will be facing a huge amount of pressure. All you need to do is to think to yourself: “I am a mom! I know I have been through worse!”

There are some ways how you can ease the pressure of being a mom entrepreneur. For one thing, you could consider getting some help. Hiring a nanny would be a pretty good idea since you won’t always have time for your kids. You see, even if you control your time, there are some instances when your business would require you to work in unconventional times.

Getting support from your family is crucial in being a mom entrepreneur. You need somebody there who can make you believe even if you are full of doubt. Who you need is someone to hold you up when the problems are trying to beat you down. People need to understand you when your business is going through a rough time. However, you should remember that not all people appreciate being treated like shock absorbers all the time.

When deciding to become a mom entrepreneur, be sure that you will be venturing into a business involving something you love. You do not want to add to your frustrations by taking on a business that you just hate. Think of your interests and try to get an idea from there. Mom entrepreneurs who do this end up the most successful, because they make money doing something they love.

What you need to understand is that being a mom will not hinder you from being an entrepreneur. Don’t feel that the world is trying to bring you down because of your being a mom entrepreneur. Id you do this, you will end up blaming your kids and you might lose your family.

Between business and family, remember that family should always come first. This philosophy will lead you to success.

Before we move on, let us first answer the issue raised by this article by identifying what the top seven wastes companies identified as the reasons for the production delays, gargantuan costs and, eventually, bankruptcy filings and hostile takeovers are.

1) overproduction
2) transportation
3) motion (processes that don’t need to be conducted)
4) inventory
5) processing
6) waiting time
7) scrap and defects

Understanding what lean manufacturing is does not take rocket science to bear down to the basic concepts. Simply put, lean manufacturing is the achievement of the greatest efficiency and profitability for a company by eliminating the wasteful methods and activities that are commonly present in corporate regimes.

At first glance, some firms are intimated with the thought of adopting lean manufacturing because of its fancy sounding name. But, if truth be told, it’s actually easier than seems. What you just need to have is the dedication and the discipline to see things through and make change happen.

These are the primary reasons why most firms often fail. For instance, with defects, instead of focusing on achieving the best quality output at the shortest period of time, some firms waste effort and energy into looking at and fixing equipment and method defects and problems. If the kinks had been addressed in the first place and the problem nipped at the bud, such an unnecessary activity would be eliminated.

To further sate your palate for a better understanding of lean manufacturing terms:

If a company wants to fully understand what lean manufacturing is, it should first familiarize itself with some of the prominent technical terms linked to it. Don’t let these words scare you off.

Kanban System

This is a pull method that makes use of color-coded cards attached to parts to be able to ensure the smooth flow of the production process. A ‘pull method’ simply means the customer’s interest is foremost, instead of you as the manufacturer dictating what the consumer should have.

Cellular manufacturing

This involves the linking manual and machine operation to achieve the most efficient and cost-effective combination that would extract maximum value from a certain activity and method, while reducing wastes at the same time. Cellular manufacturing is usually U-shaped and flows in a single pattern.

Value

This is what the customers is willing to pay for. It is the responsibility of the lean manufacturing strategy to deliver what the customer wants exactly.

Takt time

This is identified by the customers’ rate of demand. The takt time is what sets the production pace and matches it with how badly consumers need the product delivered to them. It is often referred to as the heartbeat of lean manufacturing systems.

Pull system

This involves the replacement only of goods that have been used up or depleted.

The idea of being customer service and customer satisfaction oriented is not a new paradigm in the business world. Even in businesses that are not directly working with the public, the idea of structuring the company to satisfy the needs of the people that make it possible for the company to stay in business – it’s customers – is a core value for a large percentage of businesses, especially those that are successful.

But there are segments of every business that have no contact with customers so it is difficult for them to develop a customer service mentality. And if the business itself is not structured to deal with the public or have conventional “customers”, that approach to the business world can be lacking in the workplace. That is why a big business trend in all type of business settings is to change the work ethic internally so that workers view those who use their work as customers.

When properly implemented, each employee actually begins to view each other, their bosses and especially people who rely on their work in other departments as customers or clients. In theory, this approach has as its objective to build that customer service mentality even in workers for whom the outcome of their work is only for internal departments or other workers in the company.

Its an innovate approach to changing the corporate culture of any business. By altering the mindset especially of an office worker to that of someone who comes to work with that entrepreneurial or retail oriented outlook, the employee is freed to become more creative, more aggressive about completing quality work for their “customers” and get a greater feeling of satisfaction from satisfying their internal customers.

It’s a noble effort to try to alter the traditional culture of an office based business setting. The traditional culture of a “cubicle farm” type of office setting often resembles the comic strip Dilbert. That strip can be painful to read if you are a manager trying to keep a creative and proactive team moving forward in a business setting. But Dilbert does point out some of the communication problems that are common in an office setting. The distrust of management, the tendency by employees to drift toward unproductive attitudes and behavior and the low morale of many office settings is lampooned by the strip.

The client coworker business concept attempts to empower the employee to strive to perform to his or her best even when only performing duties for the department or another department internal to the company. The client customer model calls for viewing that other department as a customer and providing customer service to that internal relationship with the same “eager to please” attitude that is necessary when serving external customers whose revenue drives the company.

There are some real values to be had by introducing a customer service attitude even to internal support functions within the company. When combined with other empowering techniques such as process improvement and open communications with all levels of management, it can unify an office and put some real life into your staff.

However, the negatives of the client customer model have to be avoided. This approach can create animosity between coworkers and hard feelings when one employee feels that he or she is not being treated like a customer by another. The client customer model can create distance between peer employees and reduce comradery which has a great deal of value in a team oriented corporate culture. But a wise manager can implement the client customer model to a business setting and harvest from it the productivity gains while skillfully avoiding the pitfalls.

Have you heard of the name Peter Burns? If you are familiar of him as one great entrepreneur, then your guess is right! Peter Burns is an acclaimed millionaire and entrepreneur who also teaches the subject Entrepreneur 101 in ASU’s Barret Honors College for over a year.

There are likewise news that circulates that he may team up with the Grand Canyon University this coming May for its launching of the College of Entrepreneurship. Asked as to why he preferred to team up with another school instead of ASU, it appears that Peter Burns first suggested the idea to the ASU but the school seemed uninterested. It was Grand Canyon University who took interest to launch the said proposed degree program.

It appears that Peter Burns is not at all disappointed with ASU’s decision but who knows what really plays on his own mind? He further stressed out that ASU’s decision is right. After all, he knows for a fact that it is not the sole endeavor of a business school.

Out of the reputation harnessed by Peter Burns pops up several other endeavors from other colleges to particularly enhance the students’ capacity to do business. More and more trainings and seminars on entrepreneurial management are coming out here and there in the whole of America. This only shows that the Americans have finally realized the value of molding a potential entrepreneur. And they have visualized that it may be started upon within the confines of the schools.

Imagine yourself being the boss. You control the business. Moreover, you own the business! In fact it is everybody’s dream—to be the owner of the business and to be your own boss! A lot of American people do not want to be lorded over by somebody. And throughout the crowd of college students, being one great entrepreneur is one of their wildest dreams ever.

Being an entrepreneur yourself will allow you to bring into your own pockets tons of handsome income. More than ever, incoming college students already foresee themselves as successful entrepreneurs in the future that is why when they step into the portals of the university, they often take up business-related courses as one stepping stone towards their dreams.

It is without a doubt that Peter Burns’s entrepreneurship ideas are influencing the minds of the college students. More so, the schools administrators have already awakened to this kind of scenario and benefit for their students.

So why are students more inclined into becoming successful entrepreneurs in the near future? Among the reasons are as follows:

There are several colleges that now offer programs which are related to entrepreneurship whether inside or outside of the business schools so as to achieve the goal of preparing their students in their dreams of starting their very own companies in the near future.

More and more students are getting serious with their chosen fields as inspired by personages such as Bill Gates, Walt Disney, and Michael Dell who are all successful businessmen in their own rights.

There are a lot of people who are surrounded by family members who are business owners themselves therefore all the more motivating them to become one.

The students of today’s generation are more conscious that wealth can only be gained if you know how to work with investments and profits.

They are likewise very much aware that with only a little capital, business can already be put up and just to be expanded when the fruits seem to be advantageous.

To date, the number of enrollees in entrepreneurial degrees is escalating and is foreseen to still commit to a higher growth in the coming years. When asked about the factors that influence them to become entrepreneurs, students make mention of their parents, relatives, idols, and mentors. That is why in these days, it is no longer a shocking news to know that students immediately start building their own companies right after graduation. Some of them even team up with pals and former classmates in getting on with the business.

The education about entrepreneurship that is inculcated into the young minds of the students motivate them to always strive for the best and be open to all the angles and possibilities of the business industry.

Small Business Owners: Should Your Business Be Storefront, Online, or Both?

Are you in the process of trying to start your own business or are you already a small business owner who would like to expand? If you are, how is your business currently being operated? Is your business in a storefront location, one where your customers can come and visit you, or is your businesses address primarily a .com one? How your business is run may have an important impact on its success and the profits that you are able to make. That is why it is extremely important that you thoroughly research all of your small business decisions, especially this one, before making them.

When it comes to deciding if you should start a storefront business or an online business, there are a number of important factors that need to be taken into consideration. One of those factors is your local economy. There are some areas of the United States, where unemployment rates are high. These are the types of areas where it may be somewhat difficult for you to start a storefront business. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t try though. Other factors that should also be examined include the competition and the available commercial space; are there any affordable spaces available in or around your intended location?

In addition to examining starting a storefront business, from a local standpoint, it is also important to examine starting an online business. What you may not necessarily know is that just about anyone can create an online store, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will end up making money with it. To have a profitable online store, you need to have a freshly designed website, particularly one that is easy to navigate. You also have to have a sellable product, particularly one that is easy to sell online and easy to transport to your customers. As with starting a storefront business, the less online competition you have, the better your chances of being successful are.

If this is your first time starting a small business, you may want to take the time to thoroughly research and examine your two above mentioned options, having your business have an online address or a physical one. This is because it is often advised that small business owners start out small and then gradually expand their business. This often reduces the likelihood of failure from trying to expand to quickly, which is actually a common mistake that many small business owners make, but it is a mistake that you will not want to make. Once you find that your small business is doing well, it may be a good idea to consider expanding your small business to the point where it is able to service more customers.

When expanding your business so that it can serve more customers, you will want to examine your current business situation. For instance, if your business is being operated out of a storefront location, you may want to think about supplementing that with an online store. If your business is solely online, you may want to think about opening up a physical store. Waiting until your business is proven to be profitable or at least successful is a great way to reduce or minimize your risks of failure.

The decision as to whether or not you want to have your small business be a storefront business or an online business or both is yours to make, but it is one that should be carefully decided on. How your business is operated will plan an important role, perhaps actually be the deciding factor, in whether or not your small business is a successful, profitable one.

Everyone wants to have a good physique and a healthy condition. When the entire body is working efficiently, the individual said to be strong and resistant to diseases. Training the body and toning the muscles can achieve this.

This analogy works in the business organization system. All departments work like the different parts of the body. When one is efficient and the others are lagging, the entire unit is not working at the optimum level. Lean manufacturing techniques can firm up the company by reducing wastes and making the organization better

Lean manufacturing is a management philosophy that concentrates on eliminating wastes and dividing the resources of the company into departments and business projects that requires the most immediate attention. The lean manufacturing techniques gives the company the opportunity to harness the best possible mix of all the best their organization can offer.

The first step in lean manufacturing techniques is to hire a lean manufacturing techniques consultant. Just like in a gym, a person hires a trainer to teach them the proper way to exercise, tone and sculpt their bodies. In the same way, companies must hire a lean manufacturing techniques consultant to guide them on how to achieve zero waste in the workplace.

Depending on the lean manufacturing techniques consultant and services that they offer, the standard process of training involves teaching the staff, employees and managers in a classroom setting. The concepts of lean manufacturing must be clear to these people in order for them to fully appreciate the benefits of streamlining their systems.

Lean manufacturing techniques involves analyzing the problematic parts of the organization, including the production department, making an assessment of the most inexpensive yet effective solution an implementing it to the organization.

Lean manufacturing techniques programs

There are different types of lean manufacturing techniques programs available to businesses. Some of these are:

1. 5S – This is a simple and highly effective set of lean manufacturing techniques techniques that removes waste from the work environment through a better workplace organization, general cleanliness and effective visual communication.

The 5S means: Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain. The 5S lean manufacturing techniques program clearly positions the methods within the framework of the principles of lean manufacturing and the improvement of values in the organization.

The core of this 5S lean manufacturing techniques program is that to achieve an easy flow of products or services in the company in small groups, cleanliness and a followed set of procedures is needed.

2. Hoshin Kanri – This type of lean manufacturing techniques makes an aligned team. It makes employees feel part of the development of the system. Because of this, the smaller units of the corporation help higher management achieve goals more effectively as new kaizens are identified and implemented, all consistent with the vision and strategy.

3. Kaizen – This type of lean manufacturing techniques is applied as a part of the system level approach to improvement. Kaizen events, also known as Kaizen Blitz, is a focused, more intense short-term projects that are made to improve the process of a certain department.

Kaizen events takes companies away from the traditional lengthy projects where valuable time and money is spent more on planning rather than making actual changes in the company.

4. Kanban – This is a type of lean manufacturing techniques focuses on the pull system of an organization. Kanban represents the visual aspect of the physical storage locations in the retail business.

Kanban and Supermarkets work hand in hand to establish and maintain the interactive relationship of the products from the customer back to the producer and to the supplier/s. Lean manufacturing techniques explain the kanban scheduling systems that makes a more efficient way of stocking the goods from the warehouse to the point of purchase.

5. Set-Up Reduction (also known as Single Minute Exchange of Die or SMED) – This is a lean manufacturing techniques system that is often ignored. When the company doesn’t have standard or set of procedures to follow on the start of any working activity, time is wasted. Lean manufacturing techniques flexes this attribute by effectively allowing employees to get used to a system and then do it frequently for more efficiency.

There are only a few of the lean manufacturing techniques program available to any business. Six Sigma training, value stream mapping, lean assessment, lean accounting and standardization of work are among others.

Get a leaner and more effective company by undergoing lean manufacturing techniques. You will have no regrets with the number of benefits this training system can do for your organization.
